Posted: Updated:

Yuma AZ--The Yuma Community has come together in the fight against elderly abuse.

Friday, June 15 marked the World Elder Abuse Awareness day. The Western Arizona Council of governments and Yuma County's Elder Abuse Coalition held the signing of the "I will" pledge event at the Yuma County Main Library.

People in attendance were able to obtain important information about one of the most under-reported crimes in the world.

WACOG officials said elderly abuse comes in many different forms including financial, physical and sexual.

They advise that anyone who sees someone being abusive or suspects that someone is being taken advantage of to call WACOG and they will direct them to the proper authorities.

Organizers for the event also said elder abuse is an on-going battle and they will continue to host these types of events to raise awareness.
