Excessive heat warning for AZ and CA

Posted:

PHOENIX (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued an excessive-heat warning for parts of Arizona and California on Monday.

The warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, and includes the Yuma and Imperial Valley areas, Phoenix, Parker, and far southeastern California.

The agency expects near-record temperatures at or above 113 degrees in most locations covered by the warning. KSWT Chief Meteorologist Garry Frank is monitoring the heat and will have updates through the day on KSWT.COM and on air starting with First News at 4:00.

Heat stroke and other health problems are more likely at such high temperatures, especially for the homeless and elderly.

The agency urges the public to avoid strenuous activities outdoors, drink plenty of water wearing light and loose clothing.
