Yuma, AZ - A ribbon cutting held today for a very special deli in Yuma called ASPIRE. At this deli people with disabilities will be working the kitchen and serving the food.
"I have a new job working at the deli, I learned how to make sandwiches at home, I learned how to cook sandwiches using mayo, tomatoes, lettuce and ham," says Hervy an ASPIRE cook.
ASPIRE is a branch of Achieve Human Services, a non profit that recognizes the ability in disability.
Achieve's mission is to empower individuals to live their lives to their greatest potential. They say any individual with a disability deserves the same opportunities to work in the community they live in.
Achieve chefs were in the kitchen getting sandwiches and salads prepared for the big day. Achieve says ASPIRE will be open Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm. They say the menu is simple but that people should consider having lunch with them because their deli gives individuals with disabilities a chance to join the work force.
"Currently less than 20% of individuals with disabilities are employed in the U.S., our goal is to change that, one individual at a time," says Carr CEO Achieve.
They are located at 3220-C east 40th street, Yuma AZ.
