National Report Suggests Yuma Auto Theft Crime Down

Posted: Updated:

YUMA, AZ - A new National Report reveals several cities in Arizona, including Yuma, are seeing a decrease in auto theft crime. The ''Hot Spots" Report is a national report that tracks auto theft information throughout the nation.

It indicates that Yuma has continued to decrease in auto theft crime, something that the Yuma County Sheriff's Department likes to see, any time a crime statistic drops.

"We are happy the decrease in auto crime in Yuma and Arizona, and glad it has continued to decline, and again Yuma used to be number one in the nation, but its improved with educating the public and continued enforcement."  Says, Eben Bratcher with The Yuma County Sheriff's Department.

Yuma ranked 88th in the nation in 2010.  In 2011, it ranked one 119 and remains at that number. Motorists say they feel safer with the decrease in crime.

"Seeing that reports numbers is on auto theft crime decreasing, its great and it means we are living in a safer city." Says, Ray Speakman.

Although the numbers are positive, the sheriffs department still wants people to take precaution. The sheriffs departments also say you should never leave items in your car because they can attract thieves and avoid leaving a spare key inside because thieves can easily find them"

Police advise to always lock your car, park in a well lit area, and never leave your car running unattended and take precautions no matter how safe a city is.
