Rollover Accident sends 11 to the Hospital Saturday

Imperial Valley- Four people are air lifted Saturday afternoon and seven transported to a nearby hospital after a two vehicle rollover accident occurs on Interstate 8 east of Imperial Hwy, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers say just after 3:30 a solo female driver and a van with 10 patients from a nursing home came into contact with each other east bound I-8. They say both vehicles left the roadway into a dirt center divide and overturned into the 30 foot embankment. According to CHP, one person was pinned and everyone involved in the collision had injuries from moderate to severe.

CHP says four people were air lifted by separate helicopters to San Diego Trauma Center and seven were transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center.

Both sides of the freeway were closed off due to the nature of the accident and CHP is investigating.
