YUMA, AZ - The corner of 4th Avenue and 16th street was blocked for several hours after an underage driver causes a multi-car accident Tuesday afternoon. A worker at Wild Stix, a restaurant right in front of the intersection, says he witnessed the wreck.
‘'I was inside the store when I came out I saw like about five to six cars piled up real bad. It was pretty bad." Says, Christian Casillas.
Police say a 14 year old female was driving along 16th street and failed to stop and rear ended another vehicle that was at a red light. That vehicle then veered off into the left turning lane causing a multi- car pile up. One person we talked with a parent herself says something like this is scary.
"As a parent I would be very upset with my child, but I mean it's just way out of hand. I mean there is definitely signs kids show before they get into something like that." Says, Debbie Jovenal.
Motorists including the driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated at Yuma Regional Medical Center. The minor is set to face several citations for causing the pile up and if the parent allowed the teen to use the vehicle they could be cited as well. Police warn parents to take precaution.
"In these cases it's very important to realize no license or permit, as a parent you can't let them operate a vehicle it's very dangerous." Says, Clint Norrad, with The Yuma Police Department.
Police also add proper monitoring of your teen and knowing where your car keys are at all times may help prevent incidents like this one.
