Shirtless man on business roof in Yuma facing several charges

Posted:

Yuma, AZ - 31-Year Old Christopher Tortorici is facing several charges today after police spent nearly an hour removing him from the roof of a business at a Yuma Shopping Center.

"I heard noises outside, I wasn't sure what it was. I thought maybe it was a shopping cart hitting the door. Then I heard thumping coming from the roof. Police told us to close down for a bit to make sure everything was safe. When we stepped outside sure enough there was a man on the roof," says Juan Corrias a Manager at RadioShack.

Police say they received a call around 10am regarding a suspicious male in the Yuma Mesa Shopping Center. Police say the male actually climbed up a tree and ended up on the roof.

YPD says he was uncooperative and attempted to evade officers. They eventually called in for extra help from the Yuma Fire Department.

They needed a fire truck bucket to get him and the officers down safely.

"No we didn't have to teaser him. Basically they grabbed him and took him to the ground, they rolled around a bit. He did get scraped on his head but there were no physical injuries to the officers or suspect," Says Sgt. Scott Legros with YPD.

Tortorici was taken into custody and transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center. YPD says he was acting strange and it's possible he was under the influence of drugs.

"He was exhibiting paranoia so it's unknown if he's under the influence of any drugs or medication. Were taking him to the hospital to get checked and evaluated to make sure he is okay before we take him to jail to get booked," Sgt. Scott Legros.

Tortorici is facing charges of criminal trespass, criminal nuisance, criminal damage, disorderly conduct, possession of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia.

YPD tells news 13 he will be booked into jail once he is released from the hospital.
