100 participate in a historic neighborhood parade in Yuma

Posted:

Yuma, AZ - Over 100 participated in the 51-st annual Engler Avenue Independence Day parade.

The parade started at the Christ Lutheran Church at 9am. Children of all ages decorated their bikes and wagons in red white and blue and hit the streets with family and friends.

Even some elected officials came out to support this historic parade. The parade started in 1961, when the Melody homes included only 25th street and 25th place and Marion Avenue.

Doctor Charles G and Marilyn Matheus came up with the idea of having a neighborhood parade so their children would be more aware of the mean of Independence Day.

The parade has continued and has been uninterrupted for 51 years.
