Calexico, CA - A suspect is in custody after attempting to rob a bank in Calexico.
It happened at the Bank of America on the corner of 2nd Street and Paulin Avenue around 4:20 Thursday afternoon.
Police say the suspect went inside the bank and told a teller that he had a bomb and to give him money.
Calexico police and Border Patrol agents were notified immediately by the bank.
The bank was closed and blocked off by officers and Border Patrol agents for the rest of the evening.
The FBI was also part of the investigation.
And as for the robber, well, unfortunately for him, his plan did not pan out. Sgt. Victor Legaspi tells News 13 "he eventually came out of the bank and we successfully detained." He goes on to say, "after taking him into custody, we brought him to the police department where he's being charged with robbery."
The suspect had prior run-ins with the law and therefore his identity is being withheld at this time.
No injuries were reported.
