Yuma, AZ - Dogs and cats may not mind getting swooped up by Animal Control after this new facility is complete.
The humane society is expecting to open the doors to their new shelter that's being built right now coming up this November.
HSOY says they need all paws in and that's the name of their campaign. They say they still need help funding some of the final portions of the shelter.
They say they have been working on this project for 6 years and the total cost is around 6million dollars.
They have 1.5 million dollars left to raise.
"We are asking everybody to help. This building is being built by the people. There are no tax payer dollars. It's all being funded by donations and a loan we have secured," says Cookie Wagter, with HSOY.
The new shelter is about 6 times the size of the current shelter and is equipped with many amenities the current shelter doesn't have.
There will be 4 individual buildings so all the dogs don't have to share just one and the kennels will be much more comfortable.
"Our kennels now are about 4x4. In the new shelter they would be 4x10. They will have indoor out door kennel- runs so they can go outside and get fresh air and go inside where it's cool. They will have the ability to run and stay healthy," says Wagter.
HSOY says the new state of the art facility will offer a more safe and humane environment for the thousands of animals coming into the shelter each year.
They believe the new building will attract visitations which would result in higher adoption rates and fewer euthanasia.
They will also host educational programs and kids camps, which they say will reduce animal cruelty, neglect and abuse in the community.
