SAN LUIS, AZ - It's the wall behind Plaza Riedel in San Luis that is causing a dispute between the property owner, Nieves Riedel and the city of San Luis.
However, Ms. Riedel says it all started back in April when Yuma County Supervisor Tony Reyes moved into the neighborhood and is back to back with the shopping center.
Riedel says "He wanted to put a garage in the back of his house and gain entrance to the back road where the semis load and unload groceries and I told him not because it was a safety issue."
The city who initially said it was a private matter between the property owners has now issued Ms. Riedel a correction notice after Riedel started to put up a second wall.
The notice was issued June 29th and states the wall is a unlawful encroachment of city property and an obstruction of public thoroughfare, meaning it's blocking a road or street that leads to the end of another street. It States Riedel has to until July 23rd to comply.
However, Riedel doesn't seem worried and replies "Take me to court, because the wall is not coming down. It has to be a court order and I want the city to take responsibility. If that wall comes down the city has to be responsible for an accident."
Riedel says the wall has been there the last 12 years, and was never a problem until the recent run inns with Reyes. Reyes was unavailable for comment but says it's an issue between the city and Ms. Riedel, but she begs to differ. She says, "It's between Reyes and Ms. Riedel. He instigated the whole thing and the city just saw this as an opportunity to come and create problems for Riedel which is very well documented. It's like I'm their punching bag."
Karen Mesa from the City of San Luis says their Code Enforcement Division is handling the matter, and it's not just Ms Riedel that has to comply but anyone with a building issue.
