CALIPATRIA, CA - Last week's storm damage has led one city in the Desert Southwest to seek funds from the state to help flood victims.
During a special meeting this morning the Calipatria City Council unanimously approved to ratify the Proclamation of Emergency which was issued July 14, 2012 in the wake of last week's storm.
Imperial County will now submit the proclamation to the State of California for consideration to approve the area as a disaster.
City Manager, Romualdo Medina, says hopefully it opens up funding to assist flood victims.
He says Imperial County is still assessing the damage and calculating losses.
As of today the damages are estimated at almost $10 million countywide. Medina say's they are still counting.
He says they will continue to asses the damages tomorrow in Calipatria where two homes remain evacuated and deemed hazardous.
