YUMA, AZ - Traffic is returning to normal on eastbound Interstate 8, after being shutdown for several hours this afternoon for a truck fire.
Shortly after noon, a trucker noticed his load of hay was burning. He pulled over just east side of the Foothills. The Rural Metro Fire Department responded, but the hay was so densely packed, it was difficult to put out, according to Capt. Rusty Leonard of RMFD.
Leonard says the driver reportedly used his J-brakes coming down the east side of the Foothills, and that's when he noticed the smoking hay.
A front loader was brought in to spread the hay out, making it easier for firefighters to extinguish.
Traffic was detoured at Fortuna Road through Dome Valley, and back to I-8 in Wellton at Exit 29 while the fire was put out. The eastbound lanes reopened shortly before 6pm.
