EL CENTRO, CA- A man is in custody after stealing an El Centro resident's car at knifepoint.
It happened around 3 a.m. Sunday near the corner of 4th Street and Ross Avenue.
El Centro Police say Luis Manuel Hernandez pulled out a knife, put it up against a witness's neck and requested the car keys.
They say he jumped in a grey 2004 Honda Accord, drove down Aurora Drive and onto Interstate 8.
Hernandez was arrested by San Diego Sheriff's deputies after trying to cross a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Campo.
On Sunday evening, ECPD was notified by San Diego Sheriff's deputies that Hernandez was in their custody.
