Newly elected Cocopah Tribe officials sworn in

Posted:

YUMA, AZ - The Cocopah Indian Tribe gathers to recognize the newly elected tribal council.

Cocopah community members voted July 13th, reelecting all the incumbents to continue to serve for another two-year term ending in 2014.

The day the Cocopah election was held was a stormy night when we got hit with the monsoon storm.

Elections organizers say that despite the bad weather, the tribe community came out to make their vote count.

"We voted during the heat of the day, the cool of the evening, we got rained on and we hung in and finished and got our people in," said June Shillings, Elections Chairperson.

The ceremony was open to the public to witness the swearing-in ceremony of Chairwoman Sherry Cordova, Vice Chairman Dale Phillips and Council Members Irwin Twist, Neil White and Carlos Pereyra.
