SAN DIEGO (AP) – Pension reform is another step closer to reality for San Diego city workers. Today a San Diego superior court judge denied a request to put the plan on hold. The request came from California's Public Employee Relations board.
Judge Vargas said San Diego voters overwhelmingly approved pension reform in June's election. The state labor board wanted the measure tabled to consider complaints from the unions of unfair labor practices. The unions say the city is required to communicate with them before putting such a measure on the ballot.
The measure will take effect when California's secretary of state certifies the vote sometime next month.
