YUMA, AZ - Sgt. Jeff Ruby from the Yuma Police Department took the stand Tuesday for the third time since the trial began. He is the detective that investigated the murder of Dr. Satinder Gill.
On the stand he was asked by the defense to identify numerous pictures taken at the scene. These photos included a variety of shots taken before and after evidence was gathered. The defense asked Sgt Ruby various questions related to how evidence was collected and what he recalls from the crime scene.
At one point the defense asked Sgt Ruby to point out the injury on Dr. Gill's arm that may have been a restraint mark.
Sgt. Ruby testified "With the angle your showing this would be interesting for us trying to see what showed that but I believe there was more bruising on the inside of that right arm."
After asking various questions related to articles of clothing collected at the scene and other evidence the defense asked Sgt. Ruby if the Yuma Police Department ever collect a DNA sample from him. The prosecutor objected, but only to be overruled by the judge and Sgt Ruby answered no.
During the prosecutors examination with Sgt. Ruby they too had him look at the clothing articles collected from the scene and asked him various questions related to the items.
Prosecutors later asked what Dr. Porterfield, the medical examiner observed about the bruising found on Dr. Gill. Sgt. Ruby replied, "She saw the bruising being consistent with it having blunt force trauma or assault on his rib area and his legs. The Prosecutor then asked what were her exact words? Sgt. Ruby replied she said Dr.Gill was beat to hell or beat to death.
