Yuma City Council may allocate $200,000 to Greater Yuma EDC

Yuma, AZ- Over $200,000 dollars may be disbursed to the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation for the fiscal year 2012-2013.

The contract has already been negotiated and is on the consent agenda. The Yuma City Council will be making the decision this evening.

In these types of relationships were looking for a return on our investment and the contact is constructed to qualify returns," says Kevin Wilkins the Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Yuma.

He says Yuma has been allocating money to this non-profit for years. He says if the request is approved it will be a good thing for the Yuma community.

A rising tide raises all ships and in the case of growing the economy it helps reduce the fix cost of government, it broadens the tax base and it creates wealth within the community," says Wilkins.

Greater Yuma will use the money for things like a businesses retention program, they are expected to gather statistics and demographics in the area and they are also expected to reach out to potential clients and businesses to introduce them to the Yuma area.

The funding amount has been modified from previous contracts, to an amount based upon a population figure of 93,000 at $2.50 per capita of year round residence.
