The Broken Promises Coalition comments on the importance of wedding rings as a representation of lifelong commitment almost one month after Barney Frank becomes first sitting congressman to enter a same sex marriage.
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) August 03, 2012
On August 3, 2012, The Broken Promises Coalition released a statement nearly one month after the marriage of Democratic representative, Barney Frank, to James Ready; aware that marriage takes on many forms, the coalition considers this to be a testament to the lifelong commitment of marriage and the need for bridal jewelry that can withstand a lifetime.
Barney Frank became the first sitting congressman to enter a same sex marriage when he married longtime partner, James Ready, on July 8, 2012 in a Massachusetts ceremony according to an article from NBC Politics. The article states, “Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick officiated the ceremony and added some levity by saying Frank, 72, and Ready, 42, had vowed to love each other through Democratic and Republican administrations alike, and even through appearances on Fox News, according to Al Green, a Democratic congressman from Texas.”
“This example of two people and their devotion to each other, through any obstacles they may face, and promising to share the rest of their lives together is just one more important reason that the Broken Promises Coalition asks the bridal jewelry to hold their products to a higher standard,” says Clay Darrohn, Broken Promises representative. Mr. Darrohn added to his statement that, “Now that marriage is open to same sex couples, we move into a new era but carry forward the timeless sacred tradition in a new way. Every couple deserves a wedding ring that will endure for as long as their commitment to one another. In this couple’s case, they were together for many years before taking their vows and it would be a tragedy if one of their wedding rings that represent those vows should break. We ask that manufacturers and retailers of tungsten carbide begin disclosing information to the public about their products and creating a better standard for bridal jewelry.”
Tungsten carbide is a brittle compound that, when fatigued from daily use, can break or shatter – a fact that most brides and grooms are unaware of. Broken Promises believes that the public has a right to know this information before they even consider purchasing a tungsten ring. This is done with the hope that the newlyweds can carry with them for their entire lives the same rings that they have had blessed and used to exchange vows.
The Broken Promises Coalition is currently sponsoring a petition demanding that retailers be upfront regarding the truth about tungsten carbide. For all consumers who believe that love, vows, promises, and the rings that represent them should last a lifetime, this petition is available through the Broken Promises Facebook page.
Broken Promises is a grassroots consumer advocacy group dedicated to raising awareness about misleading information regarding tungsten carbide wedding rings. Started in April of 2012, Broken Promises is a group of concerned consumers dedicated to sharing information about the brittle nature of tungsten rings to brides and grooms to-be.
