Yuma Jaycees ready to roll on their Colorado fire relief trip

Posted:

Yuma, AZ- The Yuma Jaycees are all packed up and ready to roll on their Colorado relief trip.

This 28ft truck is filled with nearly 15,000 pounds of donations. It's filled with things like water, food, pet food, clothing, bedding, toys and furniture. The Yuma Jaycess have been collecting donations since June, and they are leaving this evening and they plan to drive straight through to Colorado Springs.

"It's about an 18 hour drive to get up to our locations. We will stay Saturday night and then head back 1st thing bright and early Sunday morning to make it home for the people that have to work Monday so they don't miss any work, says Peggy Collins the Yuma Jaycees President.

She says they have been working with goodwill and a food bank in Colorado. Collins says the non-profits were shocked to see the amount of donations collected from another state for their community.

"Yuma really stepped up as they always do. Last year we did a relief drive for the Arizona fires. Yuma Really stepped up and they came in with their game faces on and they did it again this time. It's nice to know we live in a community that's so caring and will even reach across state lines to help other people in need," says Collins.

Collins says the Yuma Jaycees are always accepting new members.
