Yuma, AZ- People are breaking a sweat, all for a good cause. A Yuma family lost their home to a fire and now friends and the community are raising funds to help get the family back on their feet.
It's called a Zumbathon. Several Zumba instructors, and participants filled up the lobby today at First Christian Church off of S Avenue 6E in support of the Dyson family who lost their home in July.
Alan Dyson is the pastor of this church.
"We wanted to come together and help raise money. Zumba is all about the students and our community. We have 12 instructors and students coming together to help raise money and 100% of the proceeds will be handed to the family right around 11am when the Zumbathon is over," says Michelle Sims a Yuma Zuma instructor.
Mrs. Dyson also participated in the Zumbathon, and says she is so grateful for what the community has done for her and her family.
It has been absolutely incredible to experience and this is so humbling to see the love and concern coming from the people around us," says Kari Dyson.
The Dysons tell news 13 they are currently staying with a family member because the home is to be knocked down and rebuilt. They have been told they may be able to move home just in time for Christmas.
Mrs. Dyson says no one was hurt or injured during the fire, except for the family dog. he died in the home. She says the family had left the home to stay at her father in law's after being left without power after a heavy rain storm. Mrs. Dyson says the cause of the fire is still unknown but she was told it may have had something to do with the electrical wiring in the home.
"Everyday we're starting to rebuild, everyday we're trying to move on and trying to figure out what this next phase of our lives will be," says Mrs.Dyson
