EL CENTRO - A robbery suspect is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after being shot by El Centro Police.

It happened on Thursday night at the 7-11 on E. Main Street.

According to Commander Jeff Mason, the suspect robbed the 7-11 at knife point. Two officers that were driving through the parking lot of the 7-11, witnessed the robbery. They positioned themselves around the 7-11 and when the suspect came out they ordered him to stop.

The suspect, 23 year-old Jose Facundo Torres, ignored and kept walking towards the officers with the knife in hand.

That is when officers shot and apprehended the Salton City resident.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for the wounds.

Upon being released from the hospital, Torres will be booked into Imperial County Jail and charged with robbery.
