Preston Strong Trial Day 7: Watch Crime Scene Video

Posted:

Yuma, AZ- Testimony continues today with Lieutenant Gregory Counts from the Yuma Police Department. In November of 2007 he was working with the homicide unit that was on scene investigating the deaths of Dr. Satinder Gill.

On stand Lt. Counts was asked by the prosecution to identify the steps the unit took while investigating the crime scene on November 1st.

He went over the various items they collected as evidence and explained to the court why they were notable. The prosecution also played crime scene video provided by YPD.

"It's possible that Mr.Gill was sitting here with his arms tied behind his back and from there he was put near the tub with his head submerged. So it appears he was brought in here and held against will for an unknown amount of time and they used this cord."

Lt.Counts says the house was filled with natural gas when officers went into the home. He says all the burners on the stove were turned on with no flame. He also says lit candles were placed throughout the home. Police suspect the gas was on and candles were lit in effort to cover-up the murder.

Police reported Dr.Gill was found dead in his home from asphyxiation and blunt force trauma. As for Preston strong Lt.Counts says he was a suspect within days.

"It was late into day 3 or 4," says Lt. Count.

The defense on other hand wanted to know more about Lt. Counts credentials and how much training he had in crime scene investigations.

Lt. count says at that time he had been in the police force for over 13 years and had been a part of the homicide unit for one. This was the first time he was leading a crime scene investigation.
