EL CENTRO, CA- A rollover collision on Interstate 8 lands five in the hospital and traffic backed up for miles.
It happened just before 3 p.m. Friday on Westbound I8, about two miles west of the Dunaway Road exit.
According to California Highway Patrol, a Jeep Wrangler was stopped on the right shoulder of the Interstate, when a 2012 Ford Fusion, carrying three passengers, collided with it.
The collision caused the Jeep, with it's two passengers, to rollover onto the steep embankment.
The Ford Fusion spun around until finally settling in the left lane.
Emergency crews along with Caltrans responded immediately.
All five occupants were flown to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego.
The left lane remained closed for three hours while tow trucks removed the vehicles and crews cleaned up the scene.
The crash is under investigation.
