YUMA, AZ - The American Red Cross is helping a family of four find a place to stay tonight after their trailer home was destroyed in an afternoon fire.
It happened around 1:30 this afternoon in at 3686 West Third Place. Rural Metro responded to a call of a trailer home engulfed in flames.
A number of factors, including the extreme outdoor heat, made putting the fire out more difficult than usual, according to Captain John Hannon of the Rural Metro Fire Department.
"Of course, it's a very hot day, so that adds to it. But we had live electrical wires on the trailer, so we couldn't actually get to some of the fire for about 40 minutes until APS was able to come and secure their power lines," explains Capt. Hannon.
No one was home when the fire broke out. Nobody was hurt, but the family cat died in the fire.
Capt. Hannon says the trailer home is a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
