Yuma, AZ- An excessive heat warning is in place until Wednesday morning and two Yuma residents in separate incidents may have been victims to the high temperatures on Monday according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
YSCO says they responded to a call that led them to a field near Highway 95 and
Avenue 81/2 E. They say they found a 69 year old male transient lying lifeless in a field.
"Looks like he was heading out to the irrigation ditch to try and get something to drink. You could see where he left his back pack and the water jug he had been carrying, he dropped about 15 feet away from the water," says LT. Darren Simmons with YCSO.
And in a separate incident deputies responded to a call regarding an 80 year old woman found in her home near 48th Street and Foothills Boulevard.
" A friend had gone by to check on her and found her deceased at her residence and at the time the inside was like 105 degrees," says Lt. Simmons.
Lt. Simmons says he wasn't sure if the air conditioning was broken or if she just had it turned off. YCSO says they will not release the names of the two found dead until the families have been notified.
They say there was no sign of foul play in either case.
Lt. Simmons tells News 13 people here in the Desert Southwest should take extra precautions during hot summer days.
If you can stay indoors and stay cool. Even if you're not thirsty drink water, you may not realize you are.
