Yuma mom arrested for allegedly giving baby amphetamines

YUMA, AZ - A mother is behind bars after her baby was transported to a hospital and tested positive for amphetamines and ecstasy.

Maria Robles made her initial court appearance today following her arrest last night.

Yuma Police says they were notified by a Phoenix hospital after a ten month old baby was transported from Yuma Regional Medical Center for what was initially believed to be a scorpion bite.

But the child later tested positive for the illegal drugs.

Robles admitted to police the she was using methamphetamine and exposing them to her child.

She faces numerous charges including child abuse, endangerment and possession of dangerous drugs.

She remains in jail on $250,000 bond and will be back in court later this week.

YPD says she is still recovering in the hospital and is in the care of Child Protective Services.
