Former IID board member to stand trial in child whipping case

Posted:

EL CENTRO, CA - A judge has ordered Anthony Sanchez to stand trial after his neighbor took video of him whipping his step son in the back yard 2 months ago.

During a court hearing this morning, an Imperial County Judge set an October trial date for the former Imperial Irrigation District Board member.

Sanchez is charged with one felony count for injury upon a child, which he pleaded not guilty.

Sanchez's attorney has repeatedly said is it not a crime to spank your child in the State of California.

But the Imperial County District Attorney's Office says they have done what they think is right.

Sanchez is out on bail and will be back in court later this month.
