2 injured, one dead following wreck on Interstate 8

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA.- A Calipatria State Prison inmate is dead and another one is injured after they were struck by a vehicle on Interstate 8 Friday morning.

California Highway Patrol says the inmates were cleaning up along the interstate at Dunaway Road when a Chevy pick-up truck drifted onto the right shoulder and hit them.

CHP says the pick-up truck traveled across the eastbound lanes and then overturned onto the dirt center divider.

The driver was critically injured in the crash. He was air-lifted to a San Diego area hospital.

The injured inmate was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center.

The crash is under investigation.

The names of all 3 people involved in the wreck have not been released.
