YUMA - Local law enforcement surrounds a house in Yuma Sunday night after shots are fired, according the Yuma Police Department

It happened around 6:30 near the 2000 block of Arizona Avenue and East 21st Street.

The Yuma Police Department says a female victim, whose name has not been released, arrived at the home to pick up her child from the father, Jared Guajardo. They say upon her arrival Guajardo came out of the home and fired his gun at her.

The woman was able to flee the scene in her vehicle unharmed and made contact with local law enforcement in the area.

Due to the nature of the incident and the involvement of a possible child inside the home officers called for back up and a special enforcement unit and multiple patrol cars showed up on scene.

YPD says verbal contact was eventually made and Guajardo surrounded around 10:00 at night. Police say Guajardo did not have a child inside the home and the child had in fact left the house with another adult prior to his mother's arrival and is unharmed. Guajardo was booked into the Yuma County Jail and his charges are pending.

The incident remains under investigation.
