Sunday's Shooting Suspect Appears in Court Monday

Yuma, AZ – After spending the night in jail 26-year-old Jerrod Lee Guajardo went before Judge Gregory Stewart at the Yuma Justice Court Monday.

Guajardo is the suspect who barricaded himself inside his home Sunday night for several hours in the 2100 Block of South Walnut Avenue. The Yuma Police Department says Guajardo approached a female and fired his shotgun in the direction of her vehicle. 

The woman was able to get away unharmed and told police she was there to pick up her son. She says Guajardo is the father.YPD officers, a special enforcement team and a hostage negotiations team responded.

Police say the Guajardo eventually surrendered without incident and was found to be the only one inside the home.

Guajardo was arrested where he spent the night in jail he now faces two felony charges. Judge Gregory Stewart read Guajardo his charges pending against him, ""Count 1 aggravated assault, deadly weapon dangerous instrument, that being a felony. Count 2, disorderly conduct with a weapon or instrument that also being a felony."

Guajardo's bond is set at $500,000 his next court appearance is next week.
