IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA.- A Calipatria State Prison inmate killed after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 8 last week has been identified.
California Highway Patrol says the inmate was 23 year old Calvin Edwards.
They say another inmate 46 year old Richard Warrick was also struck and transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
On Friday morning, CHP says Edwards and Warrick were picking up trash on the right shoulder of eastbound I8 at Dunaway Road when a pick-up truck hit them.
CHP says the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was being driven by 58 year old Ruben Quezada of Brawley.
They say after striking the inmates Quezada traveled across the eastbound lanes and overturned.
He was transported by Reach Ambulance Helicopter to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego in critical condition.
The crash is still under investigation.
