Yuma--Two separate shootings near the Calexico Port of Entry leaves two people injured.

One incident happened Monday morning after El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents chased a car allegedly involved in an illegal immigrant smuggling attempt.

Border patrol officials said three people were inside a black Chevy Impala and attempted to cross into Mexico.

They said agents waiting at the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry layed down spike strips to stop the car but the driver kept going and shots were fired.

Border Patrol said the driver was wounded in the leg and was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center.

On Sunday a person was shot on the Mexico side of the border.

Authorities said shooting took place near a Mexicali park where traffic meets the lines to cross into the U.S.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said the port was not shut down and drivers were advised to use Ready and SENTRI lanes.

Mexicali police continue to investigate the incident.
