YUMA, AZ — Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized $784,220 worth of methamphetamine and heroin Friday at a Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 95 near Quartzsite.
Blythe Station agents report they referred a black SUV to secondary inspection following a positive canine alert. Upon further inspection, agents say they located 32 packages containing 43 pounds of methamphetamine and eight pounds of heroin. The drugs were hidden inside the vehicle's gas tank. The narcotics, vehicle, and suspect, a U.S. Citizen, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The Border Patrol says checkpoints play a vital role in the their ability to restrict routes of egress from border areas. By impacting smugglers' ability to transport contraband deeper into the United States.
