SAN DIEGO, CA - The suspects who lead authorities on a chase near the Calexico Port of Entry on Monday has been charged San Diego U.S. District Court.
Saul Alejandro Valencia-Estrada and Leslie Luna-Chavez were arraigned on Tuesday on three felony counts for assault on a federal officer, transportation of illegal immigrants and aiding and abetting.
On Monday morning El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents chased a car allegedly involved in an illegal immigrant smuggling attempt.
Border patrol officials say three people were inside a black Chevy Impala and attempted to cross into Mexico after they realized they were being followed by agents.
They say agents waiting at the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry laid down spike strips to stop the car but the driver kept going and agents opened fire.
Border Patrol says the driver was shot in the leg.
The third person in the car, a material witness, was arraigned today.
The case has been turned over to the FBI.
Valencia-Estrada and Luna-Chavez will be back in court next month.
