Man Arrested after Downtown Yuma Bomb Threat

Posted:

YUMA, AZ - One man is in custody after allegedly making a bomb threat in the lobby of a mental health facility. It happened shortly after ten o'clock this morning at the Mountain View Wellness Center.

Yuma Police say Benjamin Martinez, 48, surrendered peacefully to them. He's been booked into Yuma County Detention Center on charges of Hoax and Disorderly Conduct.

Yuma Police blocked off the area surrounding the building for nearly three hours. Cones blocked the intersection of South First and Orange Avenues, forcing morning commuters to find another route.

Yuma Police say people from the wellness center were taken to council chambers at Yuma City Hall. City Hall was not evacuated, but employees on the west side of the building were asked to relocate to more secure locations.

The Yuma Police Special Enforcement Unit and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams from MCAS Yuma and the Yuma County Sheriff's office were on scene. They used bomb sniffing dogs to search the building and surrounding area as a precaution.

YPD Information Officer Leanne Worthen says the "All Clear" was given around 12:45 this afternoon.
