El Centro Sector Border Patrol donates to local food banks

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA.- El Centro Sector Border Patrol donates more than 14 tons of non-perishable food to local food banks.

The the El Centro Sector Headquarters, El Centro, Calexico and Indio Border Patrol Stations gathered 23,585 and pounds of donated food throughout a three month period.

The Indio Station donated a 4,807 pounds to the Food In Need of Distribution Food Bank.

Imperial Valley Food Bank Director Sara Griffen had the following to say, "We, at the Imperial Valley Food Bank, are thrilled with the enthusiastic food drive the Border Patrol held during July and August. As part of the ‘Feds Feed Families' fundraiser, they truly stepped up to the plate to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in Imperial Valley." 

Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey A. Calhoon followed up by stating, "This year's generous food donation by the personnel assigned to the El Centro Sector has greatly surpassed all of our expectations and is a great example of the pride and commitment we all feel towards the communities we serve." 

The food drive was part of the 2012 Customs and Border Protection's "Feds Feed Families" campaign.

The campaign runs consecutively through the months of June, July, and August.
