Yuma Teen Drivers Attend "Celebrate My Drive"

YUMA - Today some Yuma teens had some fun with their behind-the-wheel skills. The "Celebrate My Drive" event took place at Southgate Mall between 11 o'clock this morning and two o'clock this afternoon. Young new drivers could enjoy music, games and giveaways. They could also drive a car from a local dealership and use a free app to rate their driving skills.

Taking the test drive qualified them for cash prizes and a drawing for a 10-inch, 8 gigabyte Android tablet.

Despite the free-wheeling atmosphere, the driving force behind today's event was education.

"We want to bring the awareness to the county for teen drivers and their safety plus we have invited and incorporated a celebration for the privilege and the responsibility of those teen drivers when they get behind the wheel to understand they are responsible and they are in charge of that car when they're driving down the highway," said Martin Armijo.

Today's event is part of a larger national campaign, which is giving away fourteen new cars and fourteen $100,000 grants to school. "Celebrate My Drive" is hosted by Armijo insurance agency and State Farm.
