EL CENTRO - The City and Community of El Centro will soon have a public library once again.
Only 6 months after starting construction on the new location of the library, crews are cleaning up and gathering their equipment.
But not before a few finishing touches, like setting up the Internet connection in the future computer room, air conditioning throughout the building and of course electricity.
It was in early march when crews got the go ahead to begin the construction and remodeling of the new El Centro City Library location.
Lizzette Zepeda was a supervisor on the project; she gives all the credit to the men and women who worked the vigorous hours to complete the job rapidly.
"It's been long days and long hours", she says. "They have worked very hard to build this library. I am very proud of what they have done here for the community of El Centro".
The library was supposed to open earlier this year at the beginning of the summer but a last minute change in location delayed the process.
The library will begin bringing in the books and materials in the next few weeks. A lot of the work will be done by community volunteers who are giving up some of their time to get the library going
Margarita Haro is one of those volunteers. She grew up in Calexico and the Imperial Valley and knows the importance of a community coming together for a good cause.
"I feel really good that I'm helping out the community", says Haro. "Especially since students are going to have access to resources to further their education".
One of the library's biggest benefits is that it will be right next door to The Imagine School of Imperial Valley.
According to City Manager, Ruben Duran, the library should open early next month.
