Unusual spike in drug overdoses among Imperial Valley Teens

Imperial County, CA- A local health center reports an unusual spike in drug overdoses among teenagers.

Several Imperial Valley Teens were taken to the emergency room this week in separate incidents for drug overdoses.

Imperial County Behavioral Health Services says they have seen a dramatic increase in drug overdoses among teenagers in the valley.

On Monday 3 teens from Holtville were taken to the ER after overdosing on prescription drugs and 5 Calexico teens were taken to the ER on Wednesday after what appeared to be an overdose of a muscle relaxants.

"I think it's very alarming, especially the ages. They were all very young. I believe some were 13-14years old. We are going to continue working closely with the schools and make ourselves very available. We will do more community outreach and let the community know about the services we offer," says Ana Conteras with the Imperial County Public Health Department.
