BRAWLEY - The Imperial Valley has named the recipient of the Jim Kuhn Memorial Farmer of the Year Award!
The award was given out at the 8th Annual Imperial County Farm Bureau's Annual Meeting of the Members on Thursday night.
It took place at Brawley's Stockmen's Club and included a delicious dinner, entertainment and live music, well as a silent auction.
This year's winner was Jack Fleming of Spruce Farms.
He is a second generation farmer and has been so since 1920. He was born and raised in the Imperial Valley.
The annual award goes to the farmer who demonstrates daily contribution & innovation to agriculture, promotion of agriculture education as well as community involvement.
"The people that have been chosen for this award are amazing men and women who promote agriculture, who are involved in their community, and are just excellent, wonderful people in the farming community", says Executive Director of The Imperial County Farm Bureau, Linsey Dale.
The farmer of the year award is named after Jim Kuhn, a local farmer who exemplified what it took to win the award. He passed away in 2005.
"The farmers of Imperial Valley care about the environment, they care about their communities, they care about the people that they live next door to. These people definitely represent all that's good in Imperial County".
