Human smuggling attempt stopped in Calexico

Calexico--Two men are behind bars for allegedly attempting to smuggle six people into the United States near the international border in Calexico.

Shortly before 2p.m., El Centro sector U.S. Border Patrol agents followed behind a Dodge Ram pick up truck and tried to pull the it over but the driver made a run for it.

Agents layed out the spike strips and safely stopped the truck.

The 55-year-old male driver, a lawfully admitted permanent resident and one undocumented immigrant were arrested and charged with human smuggling.

The suspects and the illegal immigrants are in border patrol custody pending further investigation.
