Calexico CBP stops $475,000 from illegally entering Mexico

CALEXICO, CA - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Calexico stopped nearly half a million dollars from illegally entering Mexico through a local port of entry.

Officials say more than $475,000 of undeclared U.S. currency was seized during an outbound operation Thursday afternoon at the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.

They say during a secondary inspection they found the money hidden in the gas tank of the car after the driver and passengers denied having more than $10,000.

CBP officers arrested the driver and seized the money and vehicle.
