Friends and Co-workers react to local doctor's passing

Posted: Updated:

EL CENTRO - Dr. James Lloyd Thompson was a Veterinarian and the owner of The El Centro Animal Clinic. He was a husband, he was a father to one child, and he was a grandfather to two charming little boys

Two charming little boys that will no longer be embraced by their grandfather.

Barbara Smith has known Dr. Thompson since 1987.

"The most wonderful person in the world", she says. "Everybody that ever met him, loved him. He had a heart that was just huge. He loved all the animals like they were his own".

He loved playing music while conducting his surgeries and loved to joke around with his staff all the time.

Like Tifani Juarez, says, Dr. Thompson was one of a kind.

"No two days were alike", she says "He always wanted to give you the joke of the day or the email of the day. He just brightened everybody's day. He was everybody's friend".

The front door at the Animal Clinic displayed a black bow in memory of Dr. Thompson, while inside, a beautiful bouquet of flowers sits on the coffee table.

He was one of the few horse doctors in the valley. No matter the day, no matter the time, and no matter the price, he helped those that needed it.

At the Imperial Valley Humane Society, the loss of Dr. Thompson hit them emotionally as well. According to Devon Apodaca, you can't put in words what Dr. Thompson meant to the staff and the animals at the shelter.

"He was a very generous man", he says "He gave because he could, and he did it willingly and he did it happily. He did a lot for our shelter and for the community"

He loved keeping his office messy. "A clean desk and a clean office means you're not doing anything" was one of his most popular quotes.

The family is currently planning Dr. Thompson's Memorial Service. By the sound of things, it's gonna be hard trying to find a room big enough to fit everybody that he impacted in one way or another.
