Over 30,000 Yumans ready to shakeout in disaster drill

Yuma, AZ- We don't often get an advance notice before disaster strikes, so one organization is giving Yuma County the opportunity to participate in an earthquake preparedness drill.

It's happening Thursday and it's not too late to sign up.

"the shake out is an opportunity for this community to practice something that could eventually happened here in Yuma County. As you know we had a big earthquake Easter Sunday, 2010. We were very fortunate that we didn't have significant damage," said Gretchen Robinson, the Emergency Management Director for Yuma County.

This is the first time this state-wide event is taking place and over 30-thousand people in Yuma County have committed.

"Quite a few schools are doing it. If they have to do fire drills they need to do earthquake drills too. It's very simple. It will only take about 2 minutes. It will be a drop, cover and hold. That's all we are asking people to do. Some Nursing homes, county government, and city government will participate," said Robinson.
