YUMA, AZ - A local city employee of 19-years has been arrested for allegedly stealing from his workplace.

The Yuma Police Department says after a month long investigation they discovered $23,000 worth of stolen property at the home of Hector Valenzuela on the 700 block of West Jacobs Street in Somerton, AZ.

YPD says the investigation revealed the 42-year-old had been stealing fuel, lawn, and garden supplies from the City of Yuma where he was a grounds maintenance supervisor.

Valenzuela was booked into Yuma County Jail but later released on $10,000 bond.

He made his first court appearance yesterday where he faces charges for fraud schemes, trafficking in stolen property and theft.

He's due back in court tomorrow.
