IMPERIAL VALLEY, CA - Two people are transported this morning to the hospital after a rollover accident on Interstate 8.
The collision happened just after 10 west of Sidewinder road in Winterhaven. The driver was able to get out through the drivers side but the passenger had to be extricated.
The Winterhaven fire Chief, Steve Taylor says the area is a common spot for roll-overs. He says, "It was a close call. A few more feet and they would have been in a drainage ditch and that would have hindered getting down to them."
Chief Taylor says the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. However, CHP is continuing to investigate. No major injuries were reported.
Later this afternoon another person was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center after a white KIA Rio slammed into a school bus. The accident happened around one o'clock on 4th Avenue and 10th Street in Yuma.
Yuma police say the driver of the KIA ran a red light causing the crash and was cited for failure to stop. No students were on board and the driver of the bus had no injuries.
