Yuma--From patriotic favorites and Broadway tune, the official chorus of the United States Air Force and a world-class band performed in the Desert Southwest.

The U.S. Air Force Band and singing sergeants performed in Yuma as part of their 2012 Fall tour.

Colonel Larry Lang, commander and conductor of the U.S. Air Force band said the musical unit aims to inspire patriotism, honor veterans and active members.

"We're here to tell the story about the Air Force. With less than 1 percent of our population serving in the military, it's really important for us to reach out to the community," Col. Lang said.

The internationally recognized ensemble performed a wide variety of music ranging from classical to popular favorites at the Gila Ridge High School auditorium.

Col Lang said they aim to deliver a message of diversity.

"We're excited to be here, the band hasn't been in Arizona for many years," he said. "We're glad to put a face on the Air Force through music and to present some of the great talent."

Several Yuma High school students were selected to join the band for this special performance.

U.S. Air Force band members visited band students to give them inspiration on following a career in music and the arts.

"I need to tell you that you need to continue to support the arts and music," Lang said. "Please do that because these are the results."
