Male pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle in Yuma

UPDATE: Yuma man identified in morning fatal collision


YUMA, AZ- The Yuma Police Department says a man is dead after being struck by a vehicle.

It happened in the area of 24th Street and Olivia Avenue Wednesday morning around 6:15.

The man has been identified as 82 year old Pedro Hernandez of Yuma.

YPD says Hernandez was crossing 24th Street when he was struck by a 2001 Ford Explorer being driven by 55 year old Ernest Martinez of Yuma.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

24th Street from Pacific Avenue to Kennedy Avenue was closed for nearly 3 hours while police investigated the fatal collision.

It was reopened shortly before 9am to thru traffic.

The collision remains under investigation.
