EL CENTRO - Hundreds of Imperial Valley residents came out to take part in a domestic violence awareness walk.
The march started at the Imperial County Superior Court stairs and ended at Town Square Park in Downtown El Centro.
Men, women, and children from all around Imperial Valley all participated in the march, most wearing purple in support of domestic violence victims.
Some held up signs that read anti-domestic violence quotes while others chanted those same phrases.
"We're trying to bring awareness about domestic violence to families in the community", says Center for Family Solutions representative, DeAngelo Singh. "We have food here, we have refreshments here, and we have activities".
The El Centro police department was on hand to keep participants safe from traffic.
They marched East on Main Street until they reached the park, all for a good cause.
Singh says, "I believe that this event to those that have been through domestic violence is actually an opportunity for people to feel what they've gone through and understand what they've gone through, also, for victims to be able to voice themselves".
Singh went on to say that this year, the center for family solutions focused on domestic violence towards children because they are the most innocent victims of domestic violence.
Once the walk was complete, the participants got to hear a few speeches at Town Square Park and enjoy the rest of the evening among the community.
